ASSOCIATE WATER/WASTEWATER ENGINEER

As an Associate Water/Wastewater Engineer at PACE Engineering, Inc. (PACE), you will be responsible for project management, funding acquisition, and leading projects from planning through construction completion, primarily for municipal infrastructure projects for small, disadvantaged communities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

Within the first 6 months:

  • Become familiar with your role, the services PACE offers, and PACE standards.
  • Attend site walks and start to foster professional relationships with clients.
  • Handle basic project management tasks and broad design scopes to gain diverse experience and contribute to team objectives.
  • Assume a leadership role in project teams under supervision by coordinating with key stakeholders, contributing to strategic project planning initiatives, and taking on more responsibility in handling project management tasks.
  • Perform billing reviews with minimal oversight.
  • Begin to delegate tasks to Staff Engineers.
  • Handle increasingly complex tasks, exhibit a self-driven attitude toward continual learning, and actively seek opportunities to expand and evolve within your role.
  • Foster a positive team attitude while advocating for PACE with clients, subcontractors, and various stakeholders.

Within the first year:

  • Perform project management tasks with minimal, if any, oversight from others, demonstrating a high-level of autonomy and proficiency in project execution.
  • Lead project teams and oversee all tasks with Senior Engineer or Department Head oversight.
  • Attend performance review sessions with the Department Head to discuss progress, receive constructive feedback, and set goals for professional development and growth.
  • Participate in networking events to expand professional connections and explore new business opportunities and maintain strong, positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

✔ BS or MS in Engineering (preferably in the disciplines of water, wastewater, environmental, or civil)

✔ Credentials Required: NCEES; Professional Engineer (PE) license in California preferred (or actively seeking California licensure within one year)

✔ 5+ years of work experience in water or wastewater engineering

✔ 1+ years of experience in project management and supervising personnel

✔ Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D

✔ Work in-person in an office environment as well as limited travel and is able to perform site visits, which require walking or climbing in steep terrain, climbing ladders, and inspections at heights

✔ Valid driver’s license with valid automobile insurance, good driving record, and reliable transportation

✔ Demonstrates a strong understanding of fundamental principles and best practices within respective disciplines

✔ Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills as well as ability to manage priorities and workflow proactively

✔ Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to manage changing priorities with enthusiasm.

✔ Acute attention to detail

✔ Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

✔ Public works construction experience

✔ InfoWater and InfoSewer modeling experience

✔ Geographical Information System (GIS) experience

✔ Familiarity, knowledge, or professional experience serving the North State of California
